The Future of Land Use: Sustainable, Affordable and High-Quality Baukultur
SIMPLIFY at the European Week of Regions and Cities in Brussels
How can we use our limited resources to create liveable, sustainable and affordable spaces? This question is at the heart of the event “The Future of Land Use: Sustainable, Affordable and High-Quality Baukultur”, taking place on 14 October 2026 in Brussels and online as part of the European Week of Regions and Cities.
In the Alpine region in particular, different demands on the scarce resource of land often compete with one another: the need for housing and economic development on the one hand, and mobility, environmental protection and a high quality of life on the other. The Interreg Alpine Space project BROKERINGSPACES explores how these different interests can be brought together at an early stage to support sustainable and forward-looking land-use decisions.
Together with the Architects’ Council of Europe and the Interreg Alpine Space projects BAUHALPS and SIMPLIFY, the BROKERINGSPACES partnership will present its key findings, practical tools and approaches for more sustainable and forward-looking land-use decisions.

In the Alpine region in particular, different demands compete for the limited resource of land: the need for housing and economic development, as well as mobility, environmental protection and maintaining a high quality of life. The Interreg Alpine Space project BROKERINGSPACES explores how these different interests can be brought together at an early stage to support sustainable and forward-looking land-use decisions.
Together with the Architects’ Council of Europe (ACE) and the Interreg Alpine Space projects BAUHALPS and SIMPLIFY, key project findings, practical tools and new approaches will be presented and discussed with representatives from politics, planning, public institutions and other experts.
ZAB Presents SIMPLIFY
Maria Rehbogen, Head of Research & Future Topics at Zukunftsagentur Bau, will participate in the event online and present:
“SIMPLIFY – Unlocking Innovation for Affordable Sustainable Construction”
SIMPLIFY addresses situations where complex legal and administrative frameworks hinder innovative and resource-efficient construction. Together with researchers, construction professionals and public authorities, the project develops and tests practical solutions – ranging from approaches to simplifying permitting processes to modular legal blueprints.
Maria Rehbogen’s contribution is scheduled as part of the programme session from 12:45 to 13:15.
