The privately financed project comprises 327 affordable, rent-capped residential units, together with the adjacent ‘Loft’ building. The name alludes to the original concept of eight towers: Snow White is the tallest structure, with the surrounding, lower buildings referred to as 'dwarfs'.
The 30-storey building offers flats ranging from 41 to 101 m² with one to four rooms, with floor plans specially designed for home office use. Commercial space on the ground floor promotes local infrastructure.
The sustainable energy concept is centred on thermal component activation. This enables both heating and cooling via the same components, operating at very low flow temperatures of only 38 °C. This significantly reduces energy consumption and optimises the supply of district heating and cooling. The system is supplemented by photovoltaic panels, an energy community, extensive green roofs and efficient building technology. The facility's overall annual heating energy requirement is around 1,360 MWh, meeting the requirements of the EU taxonomy.
The Nordbahnhofsviertel is a large development area on former railway land that combines living, working, and green spaces in a novel way. Schneewittchen has created not only a new landmark here, but also an exemplary energy concept for high-density residential construction.
