"Stadthäuser Kloten"

The townhouses built by Züger Architects in the centre of Kloten show how dense construction can be combined with quiet, sheltered courtyard areas. The use of over 7,500 m³ of recycled concrete, which forms a large part of the load-bearing structure, underlines the project's ecological approach to materials.

The townhouses are located in the inner city area of Kloten on Schaffhauserstraße. The area is characterised by both urban traffic and the adjacent residential quarter with three- to four-storey houses. The new buildings respond to this situation by being densely arranged on the street side and complemented by quiet courtyard areas at the rear.

The buildings have a clear structural layout with an extra-high ground floor for commercial use and a recessed top floor. The apartments in the first two stages are grouped around green inner courtyards. Along these courtyards are open access areas: staircases and balconies that contribute to a lively, communal atmosphere.
