Fire station building of the Holcim cement plant

The new fire station at the Mannersdorf cement plant was built as an operational facility for the plant fire brigade. The compact building volume is functionally organised and tailored to the requirements of the plant’s operations. The building complements the existing infrastructure on site and serves to support emergency operations within the cement plant.

The appearance of the fire station is defined by a red, textured exposed concrete façade. The building envelope consists of precast concrete elements that perform both structural and architectural functions. The clear building volume and the visible materiality shape the architectural expression of the structure.

For the construction, a red exposed concrete based on CO₂-reduced cement was used for the first time. Holcim ECOPlanet RC cement was applied. The concrete contains an increased proportion of recycled materials and is described as contributing to the reduction of the project’s CO₂ footprint. The precast concrete elements were specifically developed and implemented for this project.

The fire station was constructed using a precast concrete system. The high degree of prefabrication enabled a short construction period. The massive construction method meets the functional requirements of a fire station in an industrial environment and is designed for continuous operation.

The project serves as a reference for the use of CO₂-reduced cement in precast concrete construction and demonstrates its application within a functional industrial building.
