Campo Breitenlee
The Campo Breitenlee “Living Together” project combines social housing with an innovative energy concept based on 100 percent renewable energy. Designed by synn architekten and Treberspurg & Partner Architekten, the development creates a diverse residential environment featuring 324 apartments, communal facilities, and a high proportion of green and open spaces. The loose, small-scale building structure ensures good ventilation, daylight, and shading, forming a transitional zone between the city and the surrounding landscape.

A central element of the ecological concept is the building component activation system, which—controlled by an intelligent, weather-responsive regulation system—is used for both heating and cooling. The energy supply operates entirely fossil-free, relying on deep geothermal boreholes, well systems, heat pumps, and photovoltaics. Surplus energy is temporarily stored within the concrete building components, enabling predictive load and energy management. The modular construction method with a high degree of prefabrication shortens construction time and reduces material consumption, making a key contribution to the circular economy.
In addition to technical sustainability, the social dimension also plays a vital role: diverse housing types, shared spaces, and green communal areas foster neighborhood interaction and participation. Urban gardening, shade-giving trees, and thoughtful landscape design enhance the microclimate and support biodiversity throughout the development.
The result is a forward-looking example of ecological and social sustainable housing, combining energy efficiency, resource conservation, and high living quality in one cohesive concept.
