The tax office center on Krefelder Straße in Aachen houses a total of five offices. In its internal structure, the 71 x 118 m building is divided into eight office fingers with 6 differently designed inner courtyards. The two large courtyards facing the street are closed off by a glass soundproof facade. Prefabricated building elements, which were only assembled on site, made it possible to shorten the construction time considerably. For the facade of the six upper floors, the architects chose red-colored sandblasted exposed concrete.

The required heating energy is supplied by the district heating network. The heat is distributed throughout the building via a thermal concrete core activation system. It was possible to dispense with cooling the offices in the summer months, as the natural cooling of the building by means of night-time window ventilation is sufficient. This was the result of a building simulation carried out in advance. Passive building cooling by night ventilation is made possible by special window sashes that prevent animals from entering, so that the windows can remain open overnight without hesitation. During the day, the stored coolness is released back into the room as radiant cooling. (Text source: www.baunetzwissen.de in shortened form)
