The architectural design integrates the restoration of the three historic bathing halls with an upgrade of the surrounding urban space. To allow for targeted depaving and the creation of safe pedestrian and cycling paths, Rothenburger Straße is being shifted two meters away from the building.

Work on the existing structure began with the professional removal of hazardous mineral fibers from the roofs. The preserved building fabric is being equipped with new, energy-efficient heating technology. Simultaneously, a new northern extension is being constructed for a teaching pool. The structural components of this annex consist of resource-efficient recycled concrete (R-concrete), which reduces primary raw material consumption and lowers the embodied carbon (gray energy) of the project.

Bathing Hall II will feature a mechanical movable floor. This system allows for stepless adjustment of water depth for schools and clubs or, if required, converts the pool into a dry event space for up to 180 guests.
