New Building of the Spore Initiative
The Spore Initiative in Berlin is a cultural and environmental organization dedicated to questions of global justice, ecological transformation, and cultural education. Its new building is conceived not only as a place for research, exchange, and exhibitions, but also as a built statement.
At its core lies the principle of the circular economy: materials are not regarded as consumables, but as reusable resources. The project demonstrates how concrete construction can be combined with consistent re-use strategies.

The building integrates principles of reuse on multiple levels. Reclaimed brick masonry is embedded into the in-situ concrete façade, conserving resources while making the material history visible. Circular thinking also informs the construction process itself: formwork timber is reused multiple times, and leftover concrete is further processed into seating elements.
In both the interior and exterior spaces, reclaimed components such as old clinker bricks, seating shells, and sanitary fixtures are reused. In this way, the life cycle of materials is extended and waste is reduced. The architecture positions itself as part of a closed material loop, translating ecological responsibility into a consistent built practice.
